Irlands historie og den irske konflikt

Ireland is also known as Emeralds Isle. It’s divided in two countries Northern Ireland where Ulster is the capital city, and southern Ireland where the capital is Dublin. In 1170 the English invaded Ireland. They took their land and riches. The rich got poor. They made the Irish work for them. This experience started a huge conflict which is still going. In year 1848 and 1849 the crops failed. The people were poor and potatoes were important back then, because it was limited what you could get to eat, so the Irish had potato crops so they could have something to eat. 100.000.000 Irish people starved to death, and the English didn’t take any responsibility for the starving people. Irish history is tragedy. The Irish immigrated to America, and now the state Boston is full of Irish, and there are also Irish in NY, Queens. In 1916 the IRA, (Irish republican army) organized an uprising, called the Easter uprising because the uprising found place in Easter. It didn’t turn out well, and the brains behind the uprising were executed. Shinn Fein is also an Irish organization. There goals are to kick the Englishmen out of Ireland and back to where they belong. They want a united Ireland, where the Northern Irish state and the Southern Irish state are united once again. In 1949 Ireland became independent. They have their own rules ect. After Martin Luther (1500) translated the bible into German, a kind of new religion came. Some catholic wanted to be Protestants instead. In Ireland they are Catholics, and I England they are Protestants, so that is also a big issue. We can only hope for that they end the fight, but at some point it’s hard to believe it, because they’ve been fighting each other for centuries.
