My sister started crying, I told her that everything was going to be okay. I was about to cry too, but I held the tears back, I had to be strong for her. I started brainstorming; there had to be a way out. But who am I kidding? If the most infamous criminals couldn’t escape, how are two little girls going to… My sister and I walked around the island several times. It was getting dark outside and we were both freezing. I found a rock to rest on, my sister went further up the hill. I heard a loud noise and when I turned around, she was gone… I got really scared, but then I heard a voice. It was calling my name, I crawled up on the hill, the same way she did before and looked down, and fortunately there she was. “You scared the hell out of me!” I yelled. I ran down to the shallow to get a robe I’d seen earlier. I crawled back up on the hill and threw the robe down so she could climb her way up, but nothing happened, she didn’t take the robe. Then she yelled “you’ve got to come see this!”. I was very skeptical, what if both of us got stuck there? There probably hasn’t been anyone down there for years. But she insisted. I tied the robe around a big rock and crawled down. When I came down my sister was covered in dirt and she had a big excoriation on her leg. I gave her a long hug, but she pushed me away, “look” she said. I turned around to see a neatly carved out cave. I got confused; “what is this place?!” “was it made by prisoners?” “did they keep the most feared prisoners down here?” It was completely dark outside, so it was hard to see what it was my sister had found. I found my phone and turned on flashlight. We took a few steps into this mysterious place, but it was still hard to see. My sister tripped over something; I turned the flashlight to the ground. It was a lantern with a burned-out candle, my sister picked it up, it was full of dust. We walked further into the cave. I saw something in the back-corner, I went a little closer. It was two sleeping bags, one in red and one in blue, they looked very old, as if they’d been there for 50 years. I was scared, but also curious… My sister was cold and tired. We decided to stay here for the night, it was after all nicer and warmer than the rocks outside. She laid on the dirty ground, I putted my jacket over her, “are we ever going to see mom and dad again?” she asked me. “Of course,” I said “when you wake up tomorrow there will be a boat to take us back to San Francisco” that calmed her, and she fell asleep quickly after. I started exploring the cave. I ran my fingers on the cold wall and felt something, I took my flashlight out again, it was some letters carved into the wall. AB and CJ. “What does that mean?” I thought to myself. The next morning the tourist boat came again, and we sailed back. When we got back to San Francisco the police were there. I told them everything, they were very impressed and started a new investigation of the place. They told me that AB and CJ stood for Aaron Burgett and Clyde Johnson, the last attempt to escape Alcatraz before Frank Morris, John Anglin and Clarence Anglin.
