In the news clip from the CBS morning show, one the reporters, Terrell Brown takes a cruise with one of General Motors engineers in their yet still work in progress driverless Cadillac. The group of engineers have worked for GM for five years, trying to accomplish the task of making a fully autonomous car. Today the engineers have managed to succeeded creating an interactive self-driving vehicle. The vehicle is able to analyze its actual surroundings, by using radars and cameras fitted all around the car, giving the vehicles computers a 360 degrees’ view. By analyzing the surroundings, the car is therefore able to correctly control the throttle, breaks and even the indicators while driving on regular roads with traffic.
A report shows that the adaption level of autonomous vehicles into the publicity, will be exponentially growing to 75 percent in 2035. But at this point, what prevents this technology from becoming available is the current traffic rules and social acceptance issues.
According to the chairman for transportation and infrastructure of Pennsylvania, there are currently getting 32.000 people killed on the highways and 6.000.000 general accidents. 93 percent happened because of driver errors. Therefore, is he considering this as a solution to reduce those numbers.
