The Amish live like the people in the 1700 century, which mean no electricity and no cars. The Amish people are very good farmers and carpenters; because that’s the way they get food and furniture’s. But some of them are working in the normal society; like factories and stores. Some have made their own shops and sells Amish stuff to the tourists.

The Amish people were original from Switzerland, but they travelled to Germany and from Germany to America. They travelled from Switzerland to the America because they heard there was religion freedom. The Amish way of life is an attempt to be separate from the world and follow Jesus

The largest Amish settlements are in LaGrange County, Indiana; Holmes County, Ohio, and Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

The women take care of the children, sew their clothes and make the food.

After the movie; “the witness” many tourist came to visit the Amish people. Then the land became much more expensive and the young people couldn’t afford to buy new land. And the result was, that more young Amish people chose the normal way of life instead.

The home of an Amish family averages seven children and almost 25% have ten or more children.In most Amish communities, the homes are not far apart from each other, allowing close personal contact with parents, siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents. And they do not draw social security, join the Army, or allow any form of assistance from the government.
