Pros and cons of being an exchange student

Every year an increasingly large number of students travel overseas on a journey, to try and better themselves and experience new things. We call these brave young people exchange students. I admire them because they are so daring and so mature to be able to live without the constant support of immediate family members or friends. They are mainly on their own and I have a large amount of respect for people that are brave enough to take this on the chin. In my opinion becoming an exchange student has a vast variety of pros. Mainly gaining a considerable amount of knowledge and possibly a new view upon different cultures. Furthermore, I believe it may be quite healthy to get away from everything that is comfortable, and just step out of our comfort zone. I think it might help people mature, and become very independent. Lastly, it is also a possibility that exchange students can pick up a different language, obviously depending upon which country is the students favoured destination. Becoming an exchange student does not come without any cons. Firstly, it may be a very dif?cult time for students that experience home sickness. You could imagine it must be dif?cult not being able to see family and friends for a whole year. You could imagine how hard it must be to being put in another home, with people you do not really know, for a whole year. I think that exchange students sometimes can feel a bit lost or lonely. At least for the ?rst couple of months until they start learning their way. Would I consider becoming an exchange student…? Seeing as though I have lived in another environment and another culture for almost my entire life, I do not think I lack knowledge on the way people live, in Asia at least. However, I would really love to go to China, for a year, to refresh my memory on the language, as I think it could be very important to me later on in life. I would also like to become an exchange student in England. Mainly because I admire the english culture, and would love to study in one of the major universities in England. All in all I think that it takes a lot of courage to become an exchange students. In return you get a memories that will last a lifetime and also gain experience that could be bene?cial to you as a person or as a professional.
