As for the introduction, we are (obviously) introduced to Scotland, its culture and people. We’re also introduced to what might turn out to be the one of the biggest sports in Scotland, Rugby.

Geography

Starting off, we read about how “big” cities in Edinburg and Glasgow is almost the same latitude as Copenhagen in Denmark, Moscow in Russia and the southern part of Alaska in the USA, and that Scotland is just about half the size of England.

We also hear about the different kinds of regions

the Southern Uplands

Area that lies between the border to England and the industrial belt between Glasgow and Edinburgh. Flat plains along the border, but otherwise very bumpy and many hills.

the Central Lowlands

the Central Lowlands is shaped very much like a triangle. Edinburg, Glasgow and Dundee are placed on each corner of the triangle. The terrain is not very “bumpy” and there aren’t many hills, therefor, most of Scotland’s population and industry is based here.

Highlands and Islands

The Highlands and Islands is awfully mountainous, and not many people live there. As an example, only 130 of 790 Scottish Islands are populated. This is also where the famous Loch Ness river is located. All the Island groups have amazing landscapes, sandy beaches, huge mountains and old stone built villages.
