The capital in Scotland is Edinburgh, but the biggest city is Glasgow with 580.690 inhabitants. Scotland is a constitutional monarchy. Scotland’s monarch is Queen Elizabeth II.

History

Someone means that the first group of hunters came to Scotland for about 11.000 years ago. The inhabitants began to build houses for about 9.500 years ago.

Wars of Scottish Independence

The whole thing started with the death of Alexander 3rd of Scotland, followed by the death of his granddaughter Margaret, Maid of Norway, which was Alexander’s direct heir. The Scottish nobility invited The English king to help them decide, which person that was going to rule Scotland as king. King Edward 1st of England introduced Johan Balliol as king and in that way King Edward ruled Scotland. The people of Scotland refused to let England control them, and under leadership of William Wallace and Andrew Murray. The two leaders beat the British army at Stirling Bridge in 1297. Robert Bruce, that got crowned as Robert 1st, the 25th of May 1306, won the conclusive battle at Bannockburn between the 23rd and 24th 1314.
