Summary
The movie starts at an intro ceremony where headmaster Nolan tells about the four pillars of the school Honor, excellence, tradition and discipline. Afterwards Neil, Todd, Knox, Meeks and Charlie meet each other in one of the rooms. Todd is already very reserved and nervous. Neil’s father enters and tells him to quit the school annual and Neil gets a bit angry. The have their first class with Mr. Keating, the boys are quite chocked by his way of teaching. He introduces them to the term “Carpe diem” and “seize the day”.
Knox meets a girl and likes her a lot already; the only problem is that she has a boyfriend. At their next class with Keating the boys are told to rip out pages of the poetry book and he tells them to think freely. The boys discover the dead poet’s society and talks to Mr. Keating about it; they go to the cave with a book Keating gave Neil. Neil gets a role in a play without his father permission and the boys keep on having their meetings in the cave. Charlie makes a joke in the school paper and gets punished, Mr. Nolan starts to criticize Keating’s way of teaching. Neil goes to the play, his father gets really angry and takes Neil back to their house where Neil shoots himself in the head.
