Downloading music and movies from the internet is very normal for most people. What some of them don’t know is that it’s illegal to download something you were meant to pay for. Some people think that the music should be free while other think it shouldn’t. In the end the person trying to listen to some music could either download it for free or pay for it. Most if not all people would of course choose to download it for free.

Artists and their companies lose money when people download their music for free. There goes a lot of production into making a song and releasing it. Way more than you might think. It would be possible to earn money even though they let people use their songs for free. They could easily put out the album with the songs but put advertisements on it either when listening to it or downloading it. Ad revenue is a very efficient way to make money while keeping the customers happy.

Movies are another very popular thing to get off the internet. Most websites where you can download movies from are scams. They put a lot of ads on their website. Most of the times the downloads have virus’ too. That’s why you should never download movies from random websites around the web. Around 57 million Americans download illegal music and movies each year. That’s a lot of lost money for the people behind the songs and movies. Of course, the producers and artists are going to be mad about the free downloading but there is no way they can ever change it. There’s been a bunch of lawsuits against the illegal music and film downloaders the last couple of years. The filmmakers and producers behind the music has won most of the lawsuits. For downloading music illegally, you can get a fee of up to 22500 dollars per song. Not that many people know of the big fees and consequences about the illegal downloading. Even if people knew about them, I don’t think it would change anything. Who wants to pay loads of money to hear a song or watch a movie if they can do it for free on the web? Close to none! That’s why producers should use advertisements more.
