Charlie was born with a rare mitochondrial depletion syndrome (MDDS) that renders his cells, unabel to pull energy from his body. The disorder has no treatment and it usually causes death in infancy, but for now it has left Charlie with a alot of side effects, including parts of his brain so damaged the he can’t breath or hear on his own.
