Organ donation is certainly one of the miracles of modern medicine in my opinion. Think about it, to be able to replace a dead and damaged vital organ such as heart and kidney with a functional and living one is a fantastic chance to cure your body. Organs from dead people can cure, save or improve lives for the ill patients. You can look at it from this angel, the word donation is Latin and means “gift”. Therefore, organ donations is a gift that consists vital organs which gives to people that need to have a vital organ replaced. People will live longer and I think it is an important thing to participate and donate your organ for the care of other people. There are too few people donating compared to how many people who need a new organ and the main reason for that is fear.
Britain lags behind many other countries in organ donation. Every day somebody died and maybe a transplant could have extended his life. The amount of organs needed is a lot higher than the amount of organs that comes into the system. The people who donates is only a small minority of the British citizens. The British Medical Association (BMA) wants to imply a system that register people as organ donators from the day they are born. They call it “opt-in”. If you do not want to be an organ donator, you can feel free to remove your name from the list, “opt-out”. Spain is using this system and they are being successful with increasing the amount of organ donators. Another solution is to legalize trading kidneys and organs is a solution. The Governments should let people trade organs; this will create a market for human organs. This will remove the organ trading on the black market. Buyers at the black market often catch hepatitis or HIV, reasons for that is that surgeries is not performed cautiously, and that the sellers do not examine the organs for diseases. That means if the Governments legalizes this idea. It will lead a better circumstances and quality of the organs for the recipients.
