This essay will analyze The Curious incident of the dog in the night-time with focus on characters and narrative technique. The Curious incident of the dog in the night-time is a novel by Mark Haddon. It was first published in 2003, in Great Britain by Jonathan Cape and then later aging in 2004 by Vintage. The themes of the novel is Asperger, secret and family.

Setting:

In the novel we are in Swindon, England and later on London, England. In the begging we are in Swindon, where Christopher lives with his dad, and later on when Christopher finds out his mother isn’t dead, he travel to London to her (p 205).

Characters:

In the novel there are a lot of characters. There are the narrator and protagonist, Christopher Boone. Christopher’s father and mother, Mrs. Shears, Siobhan, Mrs. Alexander, Wellington and a lot more.

At the start of the novel, Christopher is 15 years. (p 7 “I replied, I am 15 years and 3 months and 2 days”) Christopher has Asperger's syndrome and he doesn't like to be touched(p 9 I didn’t like him touching me like this”). He is incapable of telling lies. When he finds out about Wellington's death, he decides to begin a search for his killer. (p 33 “I decided that I would try and find out who killed Wellington …”)
