In this day and age people tend to overthink and this story about Christopher is no different. The curious incident of the dog in the nighttime is about Christopher who has aspergers and overthinks every little situation. The story is about how people always focus on the outside while people should be focusing on the inside. In this story we try to understand the mind of someone with aspergers. The curious incident of the dog in the night time is set in a realistic setting with no science fiction or fantasy characteristics. The book was released in 2003 so we can assume that the historical setting in the book is supposed to be in the years between 2000-2003 because there is nothing else in the story that indicates otherwise in t. The story spans out throughout several days, in both Swindon and a few days in London.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time is a crime-novel, where the main character, Christopher Boone, investigates and solves the murder on Mrs. Shears dog Wellington. Other subgenres of this fictional story, could be realistic- and young adult fiction, as the story is set in a realistic setting, and uses everyday language, often in direct dialogue, seen through the eyes of a 15 year-old boy. As the story is written in first person narrator through Christopher, readers get a closer connection to the protagonist, by listening and getting specific pictures of the thoughts going through his head.
