This essay will analyze The Curious incident of the dog in the night-time with focus on characterization, language and theme. The Curious incident of the dog in the night-time is a novel by Mark Haddon. It was first published in 2003, by Jonathan Cape. The themes of the novel are mysteries, family and character development.

The novel is about a Christopher living in Swindon, England and later he visits his mom in London. Christopher lives alone with his dad since the death of his mom, but when Christopher discovers his mother did not die like his father said, he chooses to visit her in London.

The novel contains a few characters. Main character Christopher, Chiropter suffers from Asperger's syndrome which is known by his character traits. Do not like close contact hugs ext., do not understand jokes or chatting, scared of new things, reading people’s emotions and people and lack in communication skills. Which come to light in these following quotes “I kept the piece of paper in my pocket and took it out when I didn't understand what someone was saying. But it was very difficult to decide which of the diagrams was most like the face they were making because people's faces move very quickly.”” The policeman took hold of my arm and lifted me onto my feet. I didn't like him touching me like this. And this is when I hit him.” “This will not be a funny book. I cannot tell jokes because I do not understand them. Here is a joke, as an example.
