Hawkins

Hawkins is the little Englishman and is the one who like to talk and argue a lot with his comrades. He is very open and isn’t afraid to give his opinions. ‘’I never met a man who could mix such a variety of cursing and bad language into any argument’’ Said Bonaparte, this tells us that Hawkins is a rude English man who can argue with anyone with no assertions. After his conversation with noble, he began to argue with an old woman. Hawkins is doesn’t understand religion and global capitalism.

Belcher

Belcher is the big English man who doesn’t talk so much, he is in the background and is a gentleman. He is very kind to the old woman and they get along. He helps her with breaking sticks and helps her carrying buckets etc. Belcher is more of the quiet person who accepts what happens. ‘’Belcher sounded as though whatever unforeseen thing he’d always been waiting for had come at last’’ lines (35-36) Belcher is the big fella who knows what’s going to happen and is trying to make it easy for them to kill him. He is very cooperative and it’s kind of weird because he is going to get shot.
