Martin Luther King did many important things that changed the world, the first one is the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Before the boycott, blacks couldn’t sit in the front seats of the bus also, blacks and whites were segregated and couldn’t sit together. But in 1955, when Rosa Parks was arrested because she refused to give her seat up to a white man, the blacks said that it was unfair. As a result, around 40,000 blacks bus riders - the majority of the city’s bus riders didn’t take the bus the next day. Montgomery lost a lot of money. Martin was sent to jail, but after a year the boycott succeed and blacks and whites could finally sit together.
In 1963, April Martin and the SCLC led the Birmingham campaign. Birmingham was the most segregated city, black people couldn’t do much, they couldn’t vote or work. Therefore, a lot of people protested for civil rights in Birmingham. Martin was jailed during the Birmingham campaign, but he wrote a letter about nonviolence, but Birmingham used violence to break up the protests using fire hoses and police dogs. The violence got filmed and the nation saw the footage, and Bull Connor got fired.
