Her name was Michelle. Michelle was studying medicine at the university of Washington. She had always had a dream of protecting her country, but her grandfather died in combat, so her mother was very much against her joining the military. She knew that joining the army, would break her mothers heart, but helping to achieve peace, just meant more on her behalf. Some time after thinking and speculating, she went to the US governments website and looked at the requirements. She thought that she fit perfectly and she had only 6 months left of medical school, so she decided to call a recruiter when she was finished with university. She didn’t tell her parents about her plans for joining the military, she was afraid they were going to stop her. After all her exams, she was now a medical graduate. She called a recruiter from a number on the government’s website. They scheduled a time she would come in to a meeting and see if she was military material. Michelle invited her parents out for brunch, so she could tell them that she may join the army. She counted on her fathers support, because she knew her mother would never let her go away. Her parents didn’t quite understand why they were going to brunch, but they were just happy to be able to spend some time with their daughter. Michelle told them that she had a meeting about a job opportunity the day after, her mother got really excited. She asked if it was as a doctor, but then she told them that it was an opportunity to go to Libya and help them fight ISIS. Her mother couldn’t believe what she was hearing. She asked if it was a joke, but Michelle told her that she was going to that meeting, even if it was without their support, because this was something she really wanted and would do everything in her power to get there. Her mother was stunned and left the brunch. Michelle’s father told her that she could do everything she wanted and would always have his support, as long as she was happy. Her father paid the bill and left.
