1. My Gap Year Hello My name is Johan, and I’m 16 years old. For this semester, I’m in the 10th grade at a boarding school near Horsens which has taught me a lot of so far like socializing with peers. Some of my many hobbies are playing soccer which I have played since I was a little boy, running and playing video games with my friends. As a person, I would think about myself as an open minded, responsible and happy boy. In my gap year, I’m looking for a break from the normal everyday life because my whole life has been very uniform without great changes and experiences. That’s also the reasons why I chose a year in boarding school - to experience something new and get a break from the normal life at home. I’m searching a voluntary work perhaps in Africa in a school or at an orphanage. The reasons for this are, that I love making changes and being able to say I have changed someone’s life in a positive direction. Setting my mark on the Earth is very important to me. I have experience working with kids when I was babysitting two siblings at the age of 5 for almost a year. The two girls gave me many qualities about patience, interacting with kids and understanding them in a better way. It was awesome experiencing these two girls grow up and becoming more independent and smarter. That’s also when I really that I wanted to work with kids when I grow up. For 10 years now, I’ve been in school sitting on the chair. But it would be wonderful to see the classroom from the teacher’s perspective and witness the other side of the classroom for a change. My family travels a lot, and we have been all around the globe - from North to South and East to West. This has an influence on my personality which has become wide from interfering with other cultures. Talking to people from strange countries and societies has made me realize that the world is bigger than one might think, and it made me hungry for even more. My wishes from volunteering in Africa with kids are to develop as a person and become independent. I hope to get a more nuanced view on everything which I believe is a good thing to master. The time in Africa will make me suited for a career in the teaching sector which I’m enthusiastic about now and is the career I will pursue. Working in Africa will not just be healthy for me as a person and the kids, but it’s also a good thing to have standing in my curriculum vitae when looking for job someday. But the thing I strive to accomplish mostly, is helping students who may not be as gifted in school as the ones who get straight A’s. Assist those who may have been falling behind and could use a helping hand to get back up on their feet is my biggest hope to achieve. I hope you would consider me for the job and I’m looking forward to hearing from you. Best regards Johan Johnson Total number of words: 526
