George Orwell wrote this novel in 1948 and it depicts a dystopian future, which is set in the year of 1984 and in the city of London and it's the third most populous city of “Oceania”, which I believe is the continent. On page two, line fifty-four to fifty-five, “This, with a sort of vague distaste -- this was London, chief city of Airstrip One, itself the third most populous of the provinces of Oceania”.

The future is being depicted a world where the government rules with an iron fist. The world is basically in ruin and what is known as “BIG BROTHER” watches everyone and knows what everyone does. And throughout the walls of the city it reads “BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU”. BIG BROTHER is the “state/government”, if it is possible to put it that way. But BIG BROTHER is somehow being depicted and described as being a man about 45 years of age, having a black mustache and having handsome facial features.

The government is divided into four sections.

The Ministry of Truth, which concerns itself with news, entertainment, education and arts. That means that it focuses on these four elements, which is basically the “culture”.

The Ministry of Peace, which concerns itself with war, because in this world, war means peace.
