The Text “the green light” by Bethany Malone is about a girl, Sam, who is going to be a sophomore student next year. Unless she decides to take the opportunity to go to a boarding school back east. But since her mother died, her father has looked dismayed. Which made her in doubt.
Sam, her father, uncle and his client Layton went on vacation on the river. When they arrived at the put-in, Layton volunteered to take care of Sam. They all sailed down the river. Layton has tried to reach out to Sam the whole trip and in the evening, he asked Sam to massage his back. When Sam looked up, her father abandoned her. Layton started to touch her, but she got away.

Every decision in life has a consequence. From the day we arrive on this planet, we are confounded to take decisions, we do not even know about yet. Some bigger than others. Our choices determine who we are going to be and how our future looks. These hard decisions are represented in the short story “The Green Light” by Bethany Malone. The main character Sam is facing a big choice in her life. Whether she should go to a boarding school back east, where she had been offered a scholarship or go to the local school as a sophomore.
