In this short story, we met with Hass, Morgan and the protagonist. The protagonist of this story is a boy at the age of 11, who is a “tough” kid, without being one. The story takes place in a suburban neighborhood. The boys are talking about another kid, who claims to have fucked a girl underneath the protagonists' house. The boys use this as an excuse to humiliate and abuse the kid. They do this at the kids’ driveway, where they assume dominance over him by beating him up, and “putting him on trial.” They all decide that as a punishment for lying, he will hang. They all hang him up even though the protagonist, the leader of the pack is against it. He doesn’t show this, as he is the leader and he can’t show weakness. As they hang him up, they quickly run and split up. The protagonist regrets his action when they are all split up, and he can now undo his act since he is not with the group anymore. He releases the kid, but he doesn’t apologize. Instead, he further asserts dominance over him. He decides to go for a walk, and he walks around the town all day thinking about all his malicious acts. When he gets home, we are introduced to the protagonist’s father. A robust, scary-looking man, and correlating to his description, he is also a very abusive father. The father tells that the mother of the bullying victim was very upset and threatened to call the police. He managed to pay her and persuade her not to do so. This shows that he doesn’t want the child to take responsibility for his actions. The father hits his son because the son provokes him by wanting to fight him. The protagonist takes the blow and seeks shelter under the bed. He then bites the father, and the story ends with the protagonist under the bed. Awaiting his father's next move
