Between every father and son there is a kind of relationship. How this relationship is can though vary a lot. In some father-son relationship the two persons shares everything and do many different things together, but unfortunately this doesn't apply for everyone.
As the saying goes the apple never falls far from the tree and that will automatically create a special bond between father and son. Furthermore, the father is a role-model for his son, and it's him who influences the most on the boy through his childhood and adolescence.
Through the last weeks we've read and worked with two interesting texts with two very different father-son relationships. In the first text, which is called "Indian camp", we heard about a doctor, who brought his son to an Indian camp, where a women was about to give birth to a baby. It was a very intense situation, because of lack of right operation instruments and bad hygiene and, as a matter of fact, the doctor had to perform the operation on the woman with only a jackknife, which he accidentally had in his pocket. All this took place in front of his fragile, little son. As the reader I was wondering why the doctor brought his son to this camp, but we can only guess why, because the story doesn't tell. Maybe he just didn't have a choice or didn't expect things to turn out so horrible. Nevertheless, we witnessed a very strong father-son relationship and we could feel how this little boy really trusts his father (page 12 line 9-10). It's easy to see that the father cares about his son, because he tries to comfort him after the terrible situation by calling him his nickname (page 16 line 1). Another thing we experience in this story is how Nick (the boy) grows and matures as an effect of what had happened. We can feel his development in the way he asks his father all the questions about life and death on page 16. Nick has now realized that life is full of pain.
