Imagine if technology in the future could do anything for you. Even the thinks you find the most boring. Things as cooking dinner, doing homework, scratch you on the back if you need it, etc. These things might sound very great and perhaps they can reduce stress in the everyday life. But what are the consequences? Will technology in the future create a utopian society with spoiled children? And what about relationships? Some of these things might ran through Ray Bradbury´s mind when he decided to write the short story “The Veldt” in 1950. In the short story Bradbury describes the consequences of the technology and what effect it can have of the relationship between family members.

The short story “The Veldt” by Ray Bradbury has a traditional structure which includes an exposition, a rising action, a climax, a falling action and an open resolution. The story begins in medias res, which means that the reader is thrown directly in the middle of the events and the conflict between parents and children. The middle of the story contains the raising of the conflict and a presentation of how the nursery affects the relationship between parents and children. This part also contains many foreshadowing elements. The climax and the ending of the story is where all the foreshadowing elements are released, and the conflict between parents and children ends, as the children uses the technology, the nursery, to kill their parents.
