Mahatma Gandhi was born on October 2. 1869. He was Indian political leader. He was shy and unremarkable student. As a teenager, he was sleeping with lights on. He was also smoking, eating meat and stealing money. Gandhi was interested in becoming doctor, but his father hoped that we would become government minister. When he was 18 years old, he sailed for London to study law. He was reading sacred texts to learn more about world religions. He was struggling to find work as a lawyer in India. After that, he obtained one-year contract to preform legal services in South Africa. In South Africa, he was appalled by the discrimination faced by Indian immigrants. In year 1897, he raised an all-Indian ambulance corps of 1,100 volunteers to support the British cause. After 21 years in South Africa, he returned to India and became the leader of the Indian nationalist movement. He successfully instigated a series of non-violent protests. In year 1930, Gandhi led a famous march to the sea in protest at the new Salt Acts. In the sea, they made their own salt, in violation of British regulations. Many thousands people were arrested including Gandhi. Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated on 30 of January 1948.
