Martin Luther King Jr., was born in January 15th 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia. He was son of a clergyman, also named Martin Luther King. Martin Luther King Jr. was an Afro-American, and already as a child he found out, that in America there was a different between being a white boy and being a black boy. Martin’s best friend as a child was a white boy, and as children they played a lot together, but when they reached school age, they found out that even they lived close to each other, they couldn’t go to the same school. Martin’s friend was going to a school for only white children, and Martin was going to a school for only black children. After that, Martin and his best friend were not allowed to play together.
Martin Luther King decided that he wanted to be a clergyman, just like his father. He attended to the Crozer Theological seminary in Pennsylvania. At that school, became familiar with Mahatma Gandhi. He was a man in India, who had been fighting to free the people of India from British rule in only nonviolent ways, also called “peaceful revolution”. Martin was very fascinated of him and his work. At college he also met a woman named Coretta Scott; she became his girlfriend for many years.
