1: John Keating is a new teacher at Welton Academy, he teaches in English.
His methods and attitude is different from the other teachers at Welton, for example; when he tells the boys to live life and be "free thinkers". Many of the others teachers are against that, they think that the only thing the boys should concentrate about is the school.
Mr. Keating tells the boys about Carpe Diem and he wants all of them to know about the Latin expression which means; seize the day, enjoy every moment and make the most opportunities in life.
In Mr. Keating’s first class he tells the boys, that they can call "O Captain! My Captain”, which is the title of a poem by Walt Whitman. Later Mr. Keating tells them to stand on his desk so they can see things from a new point of view (= to be free thinkers)
I think that a good teacher is a person who cares about his/her students and really like to teach, because if he/she doesn’t do that, then its goanna be a boring lesson. By all that I mean that a teacher is only good if he/she passionate about the job.
2: A good example of Carpe Diem, could be when Neil is getting a part I a play. Normally his own parents wouldn’t let him do things like that, but this time he doesn’t care, this time he lives life.
