He is timid but by the end of the novel he gains confidence. Neil Perry: Neil appears to be everything Todd is not. He does not have to fill any shoes, he is not new at school and he has a lot of friends. But Neil’s father expects him to become a doctor and he has planned Neil’s future against his will. Knox Overstreet: Seems sure of himself but is still experimenting.
