The short story "going home" deals with a boy named William Woodward, who is the main character in this short story. William separates itself from its origin as aboriginal, where he differs from life as aboriginal, and repent to be like a white. In the short story, he seems to be very much in the pity about being aboriginal, and later in the short story he changes his name to Billy Woodward.
In this short story can be seen that various characters, which clearly shows that William/Billy would like to be someone other than the he was born as. In the short story we hear at the beginning around William and his family. His brother Carlton and his cousin Rennie Davis will be presented, where that one hears about the night before that William is about to start college in Perth. Here are the three boys out and partying with some girls, where they fester through and have fun. This is the last night before that William does not want to spend time with other aborigines, also his family. It is in this scene where that one clearly sees the distance he takes from the aboriginal community and culture and are trying to diversify to be "white".
