Analyse af Archie Wellers 'Going Home'

The novel “Going Home” is written by Archie Weller in 1986 and published in 1987.

Archie Weller is born 13th July, 1957. In “Going home” Archie shows how hard it is to find your own identity, especially when you live in two different social groups.

The story “Going Home” is about a young boy with Aboriginal roots, named Billy Woodward, also known as William Jacob Woodward. At the age of sixteen, Billy escapes from his Aboriginal family in Koodup, which is an Aboriginal camp in Australia.

He moves to Perth, lives there for five years and tries to live his life like a white man, by studying and doing his favorite hobbies, which is painting and playing football. By living in the white society, Billy creates himself a secondary identity, which he uses when he is around white people.

Billy is used to being called William when he is “white”, and Billy when he is “black”.

When Billy turns twenty-one years old, he returns home to his Aboriginal roots in Koodup, where he starts to realize who he really is.

When Billy is eighteen years old, he is picked up by a big football team.

Billy is a very talented boy. He is not only good at playing football, but he is also a talented painter. When Billy moves to Perth, he tries his best to live his life like a normal “white”, even though his skin color is black, and he has Aboriginal roots.
