Kids nowadays are addicted to have the physical contact with their parents. If love, interest and attention is not a part of their childhood, they are most likely going to have a rough time growing up, worst of all its going to have consequences for their appearance when they get older and when it is a need that they can take care of themselves. How can they do it if they were not taught it. It is most likely for kids to see their parents as someone they want to look up to and want to be like later on. Attention and rules are underrated, it gets seen as a bad thing but really, it is not. If no one never tells you what to do and what not to do, how could you ever know then? That is the issue Roger is facing in Langston Hughes short story Thank you M’am from 1958.
“Stone Cold”
To be homeless is a very big problem in the world today. For the youngsters especially. It is a tough and very rough life to live or get thrown into, not every situation is by choice. More and more young people join the environment with the homeless every day. They sleep on the street, picking food out of the trashcans or even worse, they will not get any food. It is difficult for them to find money for food, which gives them no place to sleep, except the street which is no good. The homeless environment could in some cases be a good thing for the teenagers out there. They learn to watch out for themselves and each other’s and while they do that, they make friends and talks with new people who feels and who has experienced the same as yourself. That is what Robert Swindells is focusing on in this excerpt of his novel Stone Cold from 1993.
