Hilly Holbrook does not want a worker with the same toilet as them. She doesn't care if Skeeter's mother is sick, she just wants to sin and print in the newspaper. She is the one who decides in the house over the man. She always gets her will. The new worker asks Hilly and William to have lent $ 75 to her son's college, but she says no.

The story takes place in Jackson, Mississippi in 1960. Mississippi led the South in an extraordinary battle to maintain racial segregation. For example the black people is not allowed to sit in the front rows in the bus, because that is where the white people sit. The maids are not allowed to use the same restroom as the master.

Yes the setting has shaped Hilly, because if she had grown up in another state, for example a Northern state, she may have had another opinion about the black people. The fact that it is hot all the time, it could be a symbol that that there are a lot of tension between the masters and maids.

Hilly is a support character but she shows up a lot of times during the movie. Hilly is in her twenties and she is she first in her friend group to have a child. Hilly has dark brown hair and has fancy clothes with an elegant style however she is racist, and won’t change her perspective of how she sees the black people. Hilly is afraid of the black people, because she thinks they are dirty and they do not belong in a white household. She is very manipulative and she will do anything to get her way. She acts like she is the leader of the bridge club, because she is so popular amongst the other women. Hilly does not work, but she has child as her responsibility, but she is not looking out for her.
