The Great Gatsby is a classic American novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald in 1925. I chose this book because I have heard it is an easier classic that is still interesting to read. Also, my mother recommended it to me.
Plot
The book starts with the rememberable line:
“In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I've been turning over in my mind ever since.
‘Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone,’ he told me, ‘just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had.’
That line comes from the narrator, Nick Carraway, who was once Gatsby’s neighbor, and he tells the story sometime after 1922, when the incidents that fills the book take place.
As the story opens, Nick has just moved from the Midwest to West Egg, Long Island, as a bond salesman. He finds out that his neighbor Gatsby is in love with his cousin who lives just across the bay. He has done crazy things just to be with her, but in the end, he ends up taking the fall for Daisy. She accidentally kills her husband’s mistress, and the mistress’s husband kills Gatsby for her act.
