Billy Elliot is a movie regarding the life of an eleven-year-old boy named Billy. He's living in a poor nabourhood called Everington. The living conditions are hard and the fact that his big brother and father are during a strike doesn't make it better. The environment is tough and being different isn't always a good thing, this is something Billy feels allot during the movie. He's expected to be good at boxing and football, but he isn't very good at all. He then tries ballet and finds it very entertaining furthermore he's quite good. ………………………………………………………….. ……………………... One of the ways Billy realizes how harsh it is living in such a poor and uneducated area is the way his own family reacts to his wish of being a professional dancer. When his father realizes his devotion to ballet, he becomes very angry and yells "you’re a twat". The relationship isn't built on talking to each other, they express very little and calls each other very degrading things for example "you will never become anything". The only person Billy truly can be himself with is Michael he's quite different himself so in their relationship, it's more like billy accepting Michael than the other way around. This is quite new to Billy since he's always the one being yelled at for being not good enough, but this changes through the movie.…………………………………... On Christmas eve Billy gathers strength after playing around with Michael. He looks at his father in the eyes and starts dancing. After the dance, the father walks out of the hall in silence. I think what happens is that the father first there fully understands how much Billy wants this. He also realizes that his talent is the only way for Billy to get out of the society he's living in. ………………………………………. The whole reason why Billy has gotten the talent and willingness to go for the audition is his teacher miss Sandra. I think she's fascinated by Billy, and by his commitment to dancing. In some way, he's got the talent and possibility she never had, and therefore she wants him to succeed. …………………………………………………..,,,,, One of the reasons that make this movie so good is because of the diversity between the main character and his environment. The environment is very uneducated and judgemental. Allot of the people in the area are also very violent which makes everyday life quite scary for some of the people who can't defend themselves. .…… The way the area and the people act matches perfectly with the period "The industrial revolutions". The wages are very low and therefore people gather and start a local labour union which is also typical for this period. …………………………………. I think it's a fantastic movie, it's good at giving the spectator the same feeling the characters fell. Furthermore, the movie breaks up some of the most significant prejudices, therefore I will give it four out of five stars.
