Time and place: the story of the film is being placed in Brooklyn-New York. Although the film came out in 2005, the story is taking place in 1986. The 80s New York where rather dangerous, because of the gangster environment. And Brooklyn was not any better. But it was also a time for, the upcoming artists who had something on their heart.
Characters: In the film, we have the two main characters Frank and Walt, who are brothers. Frank is the youngest brother and Walt is the oldest one. It seems like the two brothers, have a fine relationship, although they have different relationships with their parents. Frank defiantly likes his mother more, and do not really like to be at his fathers house. The other way around Walt doesn’t like his mother, and looks up to his father, and think it’s the mothers fault, that they had to divorce, because she cheated on the father. Bernard and Joan who are the parents, are both fictions writhers, in the story. In the beginning, of their marriage Bernard where a successful writher, and where published all over America. But as time went, he became less and less popular. Where in the end nobody wanted to public him anymore. In the meantime, Joan stared to write and became really good at it. So good that she actually got offered at publisher deal. It is very clear that Bernard, is jealous of Joan, and that might also be one of the reasons that they broke up.
