I chose the main topic “youth culture icons”, under that I chose the topic “negative impact of icons”
I chose this topic of personal interest. I think it is an exciting subject and therefore I would like to know more about it. It is a huge problem in the USA, and I think that is terrible. I chose to put my focus on the school shooting at columbine high 20th of April 1999, when I think it was how it all started
The columbine shooting:
In April 1999, two teens, Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris, went on a shooting spree at columbine high school, in Littleton. They killed 13 people and wounding more than 20 others. Afterwards they both turned their guns onto themselves and committed suicide. The crime was the worst high school shooting in the U.S history. Of that reason it prompted a national debate of gun control, and school safety. the interesting about this massacre, is the fact of how easily they got their deadly weapons. You can buy weapons in the US from the age of 16, and I think that is completely wrong in every way. I think the school shooting at columbine high led to many more. many young people saw Dylan and Erik as icons- which lead me to talk about negative impact of icons.
