We often see hippies as being very weird, and far away from our daily life. We see the hippies as being these “free sex, smoking weed and weird clothes”. Most of them have those qualities, but they are a lot more than that.

The hippies were very much against gays, which you wouldn’t assume based on their free spirit. The hippies actually stopped a gay pride. People don’t assume that the hippies actually are against gays.” make love not war” the hippies preach in a non-violent way.

Not that free at all

The hippies weren’t that free as we all think. They didn’t smoke weed all the time, some of them didn’t even like drugs. And when they were in relationships, they didn’t have sex with others off course. This guy who I read about, wrote that he was getting annoyed whenever people thought that he was having sex with other women’s while he was having a girlfriend. Some people made jokes about the free sex, even though he had a girlfriend.

He also explained that their drugs weren’t that strong at all. when he was a hippie, their joint wasn’t that strong at all, compared to the joint now. People assumed that hippies were high on drugs, all the time and Sam said that it wasn’t like that at all because their drugs wasn’t that strong.
