Analyse af Jake og Cohn i 'The Sun Also Rises'

1. Compare Jake and Cohn. How does the fact that Jake went to war and Cohn did not make them different from each other? What qualities do they share with the rest of their acquaintances? Is it safe to call them both outsiders?

The first person described in "The sun also rises" Is Robert Cohn, and at first, we think he is the main character. Later, we get introduced, to Jake Barnes. Jake Barnes is the narrator and protagonist. Through the novel, the story is told, from Jake Barnes's point of view. Jake Barnes and Robert Cohn both have in usual, that they love Brett. Jake Barnes is impotent, although Brett loves him, she won't get satisfied, because of his injury. Robert Cohn is also attracted to Brett, but she hasn't got any emotional feelings for him. Jake is certain that Robert Cohn hasn't experienced, true love, and therefore he is, only controlled by every woman, in his life.

Robert Cohn was a boxer and he accordingly, likes bloodsport which he has, in common with Jake Barnes. Jake likes bullfighting, and they both find blood and violence entertaining. Not uncontrollable violence but instead sportsly violence, where they are a purpose to the violence, and the honor, of being the strongest survivor and thus are they both very different from the rest of the friend group, because Robert Cohn and Jake Barnes, are both from the united states, and they moved to Paris. The main reason Robert Cohn is an outsider is, he isn't a war veteran. Most of the male characters have been to war and for that reason, he cants relate to their experiences. Jake Barnes, on the other hand, has lost his faith in idealism and love after the war. whereas Robert Cohn obeys the old values in society, such as honor and romance. Jake Barnes, on the other hand, hates everything about the old values, after he went to war.
