We humans buy tons of clothes every year, but what most people don’t know is what dark sides the clothing industry has to offer.1 In this essay, the documentary “Who Pays the Real Price for YOUR Clothes?” directed by ENDEVR from 2015 will be analyzed in relation to the dark side of the clothing industry and possible solutions to the will be presented during the assignment.
This documentary starts off by showing why clothes have become so cheap. Fashion companies are only after money which is also said verbatim in the documentary “they only really look after big business interest”. It is also about what we wear, who makes it and the impact on the world.
A critical point in this documentary is that many fashion brands hide the truth about where and how their clothes are made. We see, for example, a factory in Bangladesh where the working conditions are really bad. A bunch of the fabrics are filled in with dangerous chemicals that kill people. We also follow a girl named Shima Akhter from Dahka. She is one of the workers who has bad working conditions. They have a minimum wage of less than three dollars a day and they are among the lowest paid garment workers in the world2. How do we change it, that is the question.
