The story of an hour is written by Kate Chopin in 1894 on 18 April.

I want to start my essay with presenting my central ide and move on to the important themes in the short story.

Chopin uses specific stylistic and even structural techniques so the drama gets heightened, in “The Story of an Hour”. The structure fits the subject matter perfectly. It is made up of a series. A lot of short paragraphs. They consist of a couple of sentences. It makes the story short. The whole story is only covered for one hour of Louise Mallard's life. It starts when she found out that her husband is dead, but he unexpectedly returns to life. We are with Louise in the brief of time where she is in her wild thoughts. It is a powerful story that can be read quickly. The first time we get surprised by Chopin is when Louise murmurs “free” to herself. When she dies upon Brently’s return, she shocks us again. In the begging when the “heart trouble” gets discussed and the “heart disease”, it is intensifying a twist for the ending and it brings us a good and satisfying way to close the story.
