As arranged, we met Bob early in the morning. Our first impression was that he was older than we had expected, but he seemed very friendly. ‘I’ve made plans’ he said. ‘Let’s go.’ -
After a friendly greeting, we began to talk.
“My wife will be here soon,” he said. The forest was unusually quiet this morning, walking with my dog, Moe. Just the sound of the cold wind in the trees, and the patter of Moe’s paws on the ground. Off in the distance we heard the church bells beautiful sound.
“She's a wonderful woman. She loves dogs. She'll like this one.” The man looked down at Moe and scratched her ear. “She's reminds me of my childhood dog”
The smoke from his small pipe drifted slowly upward, as he sat down on a rock. I noticed his clothing was somewhat unusual.
We discussed that the day was quite beautiful despite the mist, maybe because of it, and how this was such a nice place to wander. I asked how he had met his wife.
“She saved me, she did.”
I asked him, how?
“From a dragon,” he said and took a puff on his pipe, the smoke once more slowly rising towards the tree branches above us.
