Coraline is a young girl, she often feels lonely and bored. She is continually searching for ways to find fun and friendship in her new environment. She is neglected by her parents, who fail to acknowledge her vivid imagination. After she finds a hidden passageway in her new home, Coraline discovers a new mysterious world. Coraline's hobby is to explore as she says, "But I want to carry on exploring." And after that she also calls herself explorer “I'm an explorer” She wants to explorer all the time because she don’t have so much to do in the new house.
Coraline asks a lot, she asks her mother "Where does that door go?" We get the impression that Coraline is very curious and would like to discover new things. Caroline seems to be a girl who is very conscious of what she wants and how things should be “You know I don't like recipes,” she told her father. She seems very controlling and clear. She has attitude and doesn’t compromise her methods, which makes her seem confident.
Mrs. Jones is Coraline's real mother. Her mother doesn’t seem interested in Coraline “Her mother ignored her; she was talking to the shop assistant.” It seems a bit like her mother doesn't care about Coraline and doesn’t listen to her either. Although she wants the best for Coraline, she doesn’t put any effort making Coraline feel wanted or loved. Coraline's mother seems a bit impertinent "Not unless you can walk through bricks, dear." She don't always talk nicely to Coraline, she talks a little condescending to her.
