Neville collects blood tests from the vampires, he examines the blood with the microscope he found. By examining the blood, he finds an unfamiliar bacterium. He´s pretty sure it´s the vampire germ. He tries to heal one of the vampires, but he is very doubtful. Neville tries to understand the vampires germ. He spends all day understanding the vampires germ.
When he woke up the next day, the vampire germ had been killed by the sunlight. He got frustrated but comforts himself with thinking about everything he has learned so far. He has learned that there is a vampire germ. That the vampires are sensitive to sunlight and garlic. And the vampires can be killed with wooden stakes. While Neville is trying to find explanations for everything, he feld for a drink. So, he drank some whiskey.
After a few days when Neville has been drunk. One day he heard some noise outside. It´s a dog running around on the lawn. Neville is sure the dog hasn’t been infected with the vampires germ. But when Neville call the dog, it runs away. Neville puts a bowl of milk and some meat outside to make the dog come back. Neville doesn´t want the dog to be killed by the vampires at night. The next day the meat and milk are gone and there are two dead women lying on the lawn. Neville is sure it´s the dog that has eaten the meat and drank the milk. Later that day Neville see the dog walking around his house. The next day Neville opens his door and let the dog in. He gives the dog food and let the dog go. Neville spend his evening outside trying to understand why the dog keep running away from him. He doesn’t realize that night falls until he sees Ben Cortman the vampire running towards him, as Neville discovers it he is rushing into his house.
