John Kramer (known as the jigsaw killer) is a fictional character who appears in the Saw franchise. There is a total of 8 movies. He was introduced for the first time in 2004.
John Kramer was dying from an inoperable frontal lobe tumour, that came from colon cancer (tyktarmskræft). Because of that as well as a tragic background, he got a depression. But after a failed suicide attempt, he experienced a respect for his own life and began to put others through `similar´ deadly tests, so that they would appreciate their own lives also.
He was an extremely intelligent, indirect murderer, who never killed his victims but made them kill themselves. Kramer got the name `jigsaw´ from the media because he cut out puzzle pieces of the flesh of those who failed his tests. These symbolizes their missing survival instinct.
In the first film, he is described as a mysterious person, who kidnaps people, he believes, are wasting their lives, but who still tries to `save´ them by administering various, inhumane tests. The interesting thing about him is, that he doesn’t intend to kill his subjects, like other killers.
The purpose of his games is to see, if they have enough willpower to survive. Whether they can survive the physical and mental pain. Throughout the movie, his identity remains hidden. You try to guess, who it might be while watching. Only at the end of the film is his identity revealed. Jigsaw was, in fact, a cancer patient of one of his victims.
