Throughout the last few weeks we have learned about gender, and how different variables affect the way we “look” at gender. I find the topic to be especially relevant as the modern world continues to evolve. The UN sustainable goal number five is to “achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.” Although women have been granted more rights throughout history, there is still a very long way to go before we can say that we have achieved gender equality in the world. “There is no one country in the world where all women can expect to receive these rights,” Emma Watson said at the HeForShe campaign at the UN in 2014. I believe it is discriminating and disappointing that women still can't expect equal rights in 2019. The world has developed so much, why is it that women still are seen as the inferior sex?

In some countries today, women still aren’t allowed to receive an education and are expected to stay at home their entire lives to take care of their families. Malala Yousafzai, Nobel Prize winner, fought for girls to receive an education from a very young age. She thinks that if every girl is able to get an education and move on to a higher education to get a job it would significantly help with the UN’s sustainable goal. I am attending school to receive an education to ultimately end up with a job I love, something men have had the opportunity to do forever.
