We as women have fought for our rights for many years now. We have gone through thick and thin to get where we are today. Sexism is sadly still a reoccurring problem however we can proudly declare that because of the powerful women throughout history we now have the opportunity to get jobs, vote and the freedom to be ourselves without the fear of severe judgement or discrimination from others.
Even though we have come a long way we haven’t yet reached our end goal. We women might be free as a bird but we are still put in cages. We still don’t get paid the same as men in the same work environment nor do we get treated rightfully. We still get scared when we alone stroll home at night. We still get silenced when we talk about the brutality of rape, assault and harassment.
But who is at fault? The easy answer would be to say that men are the root of the problem however I would argue that we as a society share a part of the burden of causing the inequality. We are responsible for putting the idea of disrespect and hatred towards women into people’s mind. Therefore we are the ones to be held accountable. If we don’t learn people to value women or how to act with respect and gratitude towards women, then nobody is going to and the apparent issue will progress and become out of hand.
