The whole world stands upon a deadly pandemic. Many lives have been lost and many people have been left with grief. The United States of America, is one of the countries with the highest deaths because of Covid-19. The former President Donald Trump hasn't handled the situation very well, so now the new President, Joe Biden, needs to make up for all the bad decisions Trump has made. The speech is about Joe Biden asking the Americans to stand in unity. He also says at the ending of the excerpt in line 103 that “We have never, ever, ever failed in America when we have acted together”. Joe Biden also says that the nation has so much to repair, restore and heal. And he also points out that racial injustice needs to change, and people need to be treated equally, and have the same rights.

Analytical essay:

President Biden is in his speech referring multiple times to unity. He wants the Americans to stand in unity, because if they do that, they can overcome anything. He also emphasizes that they are not only celebrating a new candidate, but they are also celebrating democracy. That can be seen in line 10 in the excerpt “Today, we celebrate the triumph not of a candidate, but of a cause, the cause of democracy. The will of the people has been heard and the will of the people has been heeded. We have learned again that democracy is precious. Democracy is fragile. And at this hour, my friends, democracy has prevailed. So now, on this hallowed ground where just days ago violence sought to shake this Capitol’s very foundation, we come together as one nation, under God, indivisible, to carry out the peaceful transfer of power as we have for more than two centuries.” America has decided and they have voted for the man whom they believe will lead America in a good way, and ofcourse make America great again. In the speech Biden is talking to the whole nation of America that’s why the target group is the whole population of The United States. The speech is about the well being of the country and the future plans and ideas Biden has, therefore it is important that the target group is wide, so everybody can stand together in unity and make America a better place.
