Analysis of Nelson Mandela famous speech

On May 10th 1994,Nelson Mandela was elected as South Africa’s first black president. This election

was very significant because it represented the first ever democratic and multi-racial election the

country was to participate in. Nelson’s speech is seen to be commanding, motivational and uplifting

where he says “The time for healing of the words has come. The moment to bridge the chasms that

divide us has come. The time to build is upon us”. In his speech he dedicates the day to all the heroes

,heroines and all those who sacrificed and surrendered their lives so that the rest could be liberated

from the bondage of deprivation and suffering, poverty, racism, gender and other discrimination.

Mandela speaks on freedom in conditions of relative peace which is just and complete and the

freedom they have earned is now a reward whereby their dreams have become reality.

The main theme of this speech is the part where he talks about justice, peace and unity for all, which

is illustrated in this lines “We must act together as a united people ,for national reconciliation , for
