Analyse af John McCains valgnederlagstale 2008

Every 4 years there is a presidential election in the USA, where the president candidates run their campaigns and do their best to earn votes from each state. From January to June in the election year each party holds their primaries, an election held to determine which of a party’s candidates will be the final nominee. In 2008 John McCain won the republicans primaries and Barack Obama won the democrats’ primaries. Obama went on to win the presidential election and became the 44th president of the USA. After losing McCain wrote a concession speech which will be the center of this essay.

Back in 2008 when McCain held his concession speech in Arizona it was a matter of moments before the crowd booed at the mention of Obamas Name and McCain had to calm them again. McCain was convincingly beaten by Obama and his 365 electoral votes to McCains 173. But in his concession speech McCain speaks graciously about Obama. “My friends, we have come to the end of a long journey. The American people have spoken, and they have spoken clearly. A little while ago, I had the honor of calling Sen. Barack Obama, to congratulate him on being elected the next president of the country that we both love” McCain said. McCain of course lost the election. But it was not just any election as he lost to the first black president in USA history, which was also mentioned in his speech. He lost to the first Black president in U.S. history, which he paid special mention to in a sincere address."This is an historic election. And I recognize the special significance it has for African Americans, and for the special pride that must be theirs tonight" McCain said. “A century ago, President Theodore Roosevelt's invitation of Booker T. Washington to visit — to dine at the White House — was taken as an outrage in many quarters. America today is a world away from the cruel and prideful bigotry of that time. There is no better evidence of this than the election of an African American to the presidency of the United States. Let there be no reason now for any American to fail to cherish their citizenship in this, the greatest nation on Earth.”McCains speaks with a lot of respect for Obama, and he urges the republicans who voted for him to support Obama and in doing so leaving behind a better world for their children to live in.
