I would like to share my experience, to inspire the young people out there. I had just finished my high school and I wanted to have a gap year, but I was in doubt about what I would like to. I just knew I needed a new start. Then I saw this amazing advertising on my Instagram. It was a delight to the eyes. There was a lot of word pictures, and the headline “If you want a new beginning, then change your life with “CouchSurfing””. I clicked, and then I knew this would be a new chapter of my life. It was Saturday and I was landed in London airport. I was a little bit nervous, but at the same time I was looking forward to meeting my new hosts. My first impression was really good, and there was no reason to be scared. The family was existing of a mom, a dad, a little girl and Jack - a boy at my age. The father of the family was the head of his own company, which means he had a good income. They were therefor living in a big villa, on a central street in Oxford. They were atheists and lived a normal life in a British culture. The mother of the family really wanted to show me as many events as possible. The first day we saw The British Museum in London. I remember how fascinated I was of Jack – he was so hot and intelligent at the same time. He knew everything about the mummies and the old Egypt, and I actually felt a little stupid beside him. The weather was amazing. I was wearing a cute summer dress; my mom sewed some years ago. We eat ice cream and I remember it kind a felt like I was on a summer holiday. The second day they showed me the popular London Eye. Jack and I was sitting beside each other, and for every time we talked, I start sweating and reddening. Maybe I was getting in love with him? The third day we saw Big ben, which is an extremely popular building know for the big clock, in the top of the tower. At the evening Jack and I visited and old pub, where we get some local drinks. It wasn’t my cup of tea, but I least I get drunk and we had fun. One of the last days, my hosts took me to an old province far away from the central city. Their grandmother was living there, and own an “Bed and Breakfast”, which is really typical and popular in the United Kingdom. She sold British tea and British beans, as I never had tasted before, but I was pleasantly surprised. I have learned a lot about the British culture, and how people with different religions and different ways to live their life still can learn something from each other. I would clearly recommend “CouchSurfing” for everyone who just needed a new beginning – it would only make you more mature and positive. And you will for sure get some new friends and maybe a boyfriend, who knows?
