Analyse af novellen 'The Sin Bin'

Lucy is the main character of the story. She is a teenager and goes to a normal school in whales. lucy lives with her strict mother. Her mother wants lucy to behave well and do good in school. But because lucy is a teenager she wants to rebel against her mother. She does this by beating up penny jones. Penny jones is Lucy’s former best friend, she is a very good girl. But after the incident she moved school. Lucy has found her new best friend called Bethan. Bethan is a bad person and is mean to everyone. Even lucy doesn’t like Bethan sometimes, and so do her mother. But because her mother doesn’t like Bethan it makes lucy want to be her friend even more. But lucy doesn’t know who to pick, her mother or Bethan. And that is why she is so confused. She like the old lucy but she also like Bethan. She doesn’t know if she wants to do well in school or to rebel, and that is what she thinks about in detention.

Lucys own heart symbolizes her relationship with herself. She talks about how her mother has said to her that if she smokes her heart will char and turn black. Lucy only smokes when she is with Bethan. Meaning that when she is with Bethan it ruins her heart. Bethan makes Lucy’s heart black. But when she is with her mother and In school she says that her heart feels nice and good.
